Diana, congratulations on receiving the CREW Vancouver Rising Star award! What a fantastic accomplishment. For those looking to make similar meaningful professional contributions in our industry how do you recommend getting more involved outside of work?

There are lots of great associations whether it be for the industry or a specific job field (eg. Accounting, appraisal) to get involved in. I would look at what volunteer opportunities are available. Another way to contribute is to consider becoming a mentor to younger people or students interested in the industry.

Last year you created and led the newly establish CREW Vancouver IDEA committee focused on inclusion, diversity, equity and Allyship – what events and initiatives can we look forward to this year from the committee?

I'm very excited for this year as we have a great group of volunteers to help launch a lot of new initiatives! One focus of the Committee is learning how to be an ally. What this looks like for our members are events on this theme as well as ESG, a resource hub on the website and seeing more giveaways from local, female and BIPOC businesses. Internally, we are focused on how we can continue to educate ourselves.

If you were asked to give one piece of advice for how to build a successful career or achieve a challenging professional work goal, what would it be??

Having a support network in and outside of your workplace is crucial whether that be family/friends or industry mentors. My network has provided me with tools and resources to get through challenges and advice but most importantly, have been there to support me through some really tough times. It is also good to diversity your network as not every person will support you in the same way and it’s great to hear different perspectives.

Outside of work, what are your hobbies/passions?

I love to eat and try out new places. One of my latest favourite finds is Sen Pad Thai at Granville Island – the pad see ew is amazing!
