CREW Vancouver Q&A

Q: Flavia, thank you for being our Member Spotlight! What was your path to joining CREW and what do you enjoy most about being apart of this organization?

In 2010 I was drawn to the organization as a way to connect with colleagues in the industry. I have continued to enjoy learning from guest speakers and colleagues at events through their shared experiences. I am grateful to be asked to be a mentor to women new to the real estate industry. One of the most rewarding experiences during my CREW membership along with being asked to speak on a panel with my peers in February 2018.

Q: I read that your first gig at Boffo Properties was watering bark mulch on your father’s job sites at the age of 4. How incredible! Did you always know you wanted to work for the family business?

I loved all things real estate at a young age. I have so many memories of being on a construction site with my Dad watching him build his business based on landscaping, then moving into building single family homes and then multi family homes. Playing ‘office’ with my Barbies alongside my Mom while she would maintain the books for the family business. Surrounded by family who immigrated from Northern Italy, at a young age, I would hear the stories of excavation, concrete pours, framing, finishing details. My favourite story is our first family home was framed and roofed in three days; my parents always say they paid their friends and family in KFC and Lucky Beer. I love this story because it is an example of the true immigrant drive of getting a job done, working collaboratively and having fun while helping each other.

Q: As a second-generation leader of Boffo Properties, what inspires you the most to keep building?

I am inspired to build great neighbourhoods and do exceptional work alongside honest, devoted people. I am inspired to build homes for families so that they can build memories and build workplaces for teams to come and build businesses to support their families. What inspires me the most to keep building is Family.

Q: If you were asked to give one piece of advice to someone entering commercial real estate, what would it be and how has this guidance helped you in your own career?

Be humble, hungry and smart. Being humble – better together, Being hungry - focus and work hard. Being smart - treating others as they would want to be treated. This has served me well in my personal and professional life. My parents lived these values; these values are my foundation. They have helped guide me in all aspects of real estate from acquisitions to customer care. They have helped build a committed and devoted family and team at the Boffo Properties.

Q: Have you picked up any new hobbies since working from home these past few months?

I love my Peloton and I believe everyone should have one! Biking and strength classes everyday! Learned how to play golf; 7 rounds under my belt, Do not ask me how I scored...not keeping score yet! But having fun golfing with my husband of 30 years and my adult sons.

Q: In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of joining CREW?

The camaraderie of real estate professionals who come together at events, share their experiences and provide support. Just as I have reached out to members directly for feedback; I have had members reach out to me directly and ask for my feedback on a real estate issue they are working through.
