Join CREW Vancouver on February 22 for lunch and an economic update with Rebekah Young, Vice President, Head of Inclusion and Resilience Economics at Scotiabank. Learn how inflation, interest rates, and global markets are affecting the Canadian real estate market.
The last three years have been marked by rapidly evolving developments as the global pandemic upended lives and economies. Uncertainty has been a persistent theme throughout, though its nature continues to evolve. With the global economy facing a recession, Rebekah will unpack what this means for Canada. Rebekah will explore the near-term outlook around inflation and interest rates and their impact on labour markets, housing, and business investment, among other issues. She will also touch on medium-term challenges and opportunities for the country and the region.

Rebekah Young | Vice President, Head of Inclusion and Resilience Economics at Scotiabank
Rebekah joined Scotiabank in 2019 as Director, Fiscal & Provincial Economics, and in 2022 was appointed Scotiabank’s first Head of Inclusion and Resilience Economics with a mandate to provide thought leadership on inclusive economic growth that is resilient in an evolving and ever-changing world.
In this role, Rebekah approaches some of the key issues of our time – climate change, technological transformation, economic disruption, labour demographics, and more – through a lens that includes more than broad macroeconomic concerns but also focuses on sectoral and even household vulnerabilities that can stand in the way of prosperity.
Rebekah was an early advocate for corporate sustainability - a theme that continues to influence her analysis today. She began her career promoting corporate responsibility at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in Switzerland and fostering clean-plant design as an engineer with Hatch Associates in Toronto. She has also held senior roles at the federal Department of Finance and the International Monetary Fund.
She holds an MBA from INSEAD in France and Singapore, a Masters degree in Environmental Assessment and Evaluation from the London School of Economics (UK), and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemical Engineering from McGill University.
We look forward to hosting you at the luxurious Shangri-La Vancouver. Seats for this luncheon are limited, register early!
