We're running a series to highlight and learn more about our CREW Vancouver Sponsors. We asked them a few questions so we can get to know them better.

We'd like to thank one of our long-time Gold Sponsors, Adera Development Corporation.

CREW Vancouver SS Adera LT 1

Could you share with us a recent project or initiative your company is particularly proud of?

The revitalization of the Britannia Beach community has been an exciting and rewarding project for Adera, in partnership with MacDonald Communities Limited. While many are familiar with the historic Britannia Beach—having passed through on the way to Squamish or Whistler, or perhaps visited the old mines—this hidden gem in the Sea to Sky Corridor has recently been transformed. The community jewel in the Sea to Sky Corridor has been rejuvenated with 73 contemporary townhomes set around a charming heritage artisan village that beautifully blends the area’s rich history and natural beauty with modern conveniences.

The community, housed in restored heritage buildings from the early 1900s, features a vibrant community center, Eagle Kids Daycare, and local favourites like Beaucoup Bakery, Copper & Fern Gift Shop, and the Copper Beach Bar & Kitchen. The RBC Granfondo Whistler once again made a stop at Britannia Beach as a key aid station on the race route. Those who visited have been amazed by how this quaint community has evolved and welcomed many new families.

What core values does your company prioritize, and how do these values align with the mission and goals of our women's network?

With over 55 years in the industry, Adera employees have a strong tradition of upholding the core values of Agility, Sustainability, Pride and Partnership. Many of our employees have built life-long careers at Adera and as a learning organization, we are committed to continuous improvement and leadership development at all levels. Most of our executives began their careers in junior roles within the company, and over 30% of our leadership team are women. We are dedicated to attracting, retaining, and supporting our teams to help them achieve their full potential.

People are our superpower, and Adera is committed to fostering career growth through a comprehensive Education policy. We encourage future leaders to engage with industry associations like CREW Vancouver, UDI, and Canadian Construction Women to build their networks and deepen their understanding of Commercial Real Estate. While we don’t necessarily have a formalized mentoring program, Adera invests in training our people managers on how to understand and support the career aspirations of their teams. While we don’t have a formal mentoring program, we invest in training our managers to support their team members' career goals. Many women hold leadership positions throughout our organization, and our leaders are generous with their time, offering advice and support to those interested in learning more about the company, the industry, and career advancement.

Could you share a story or example of a woman in your company who has benefited from her involvement with CREW Vancouver, and how has this experience contributed to her professional growth and development within the commercial real estate industry?

When Mandy Newton, VP of Shared Services, joined Adera's executive team, she was the only woman at the table and noticed that many of her colleagues had well-established industry networks. To enhance her industry knowledge and contribute more effectively, Mandy joined CREW Vancouver, gaining access to a powerful network of women leaders across North America. Adera fully supported Mandy's involvement, and she subsequently served on the CREW Vancouver Board for five years, including a term as Chapter President in 2016.

Her engagement with CREW significantly boosted her leadership skills, confidence, and industry connections. Additionally, many of our new hires have been introduced through these CREW connections. Most recently, Lisa Allsworth joined Adera and has been actively involved with CREW Vancouver as Co-Director of Events, Golf Tournament Lead, and an enthusiastic attendee of the CREW Convention in both 2023 and 2024.

What has been your favourite CREW event that you’ve attended as a sponsor, and why?

We’ve always enjoyed participating in the CREW Golf Tournament. It provides excellent exposure for sponsors and is a fun-filled day that introduces newcomers to the CREW Network and CREW Vancouver. Attendees have the chance to meet many smart, engaging, and influential women in Commercial Real Estate.

As a major fundraiser for the chapter, the Golf Tournament plays a crucial role in supporting CREW Vancouver’s mission to engage, support, and advance women’s achievements in the industry. It’s gratifying to contribute to CREW’s commitment to fostering a community of professionalism and excellence for women at every stage of their commercial real estate careers.
